Description
The view from the Spider Rock overlook at Canyon de Chelly (pronounced d'shay) National Monument in northeastern Arizona is positively breathtaking. Another example of the amazing landscape throughout the American Southwest.
The floor of the canyon is about 1000 feet below. Spider rock, 800 feet tall, stands at the junction of Canyon de Chelly and Monument Canyon. The Navajo believe that Spider Woman, the deity who taught the Navajo women how to weave, lives atop Spider Rock. It is also believed that once Face Rock informs Spider Woman of naughty children, she carries the children to the top of Spider Rock.
